Dreaming about New Classroom Supplies after a Great Inservice

New classroom supplies are frequently added to my wish list after I attend a powerful teacher training.  If I get a chance to purchase these supplies for the classroom, they sometimes sit in the box unopened until the following year.  I was just talking with a friend yesterday about an end of the year training on writing.  She was so excited to incorporate new activities and routines into her classroom next year.  She mentioned several teaching supplies that she was going to purchase over the summer to help her get started in the fall.  Our conversation reminded me how a dynamic presenter can motivate teachers and help them bring their teaching to the next level.  What a wonderful way to end the year!

As teachers we are inundated with many wonderful tools and strategies to strengthen our teacher skills over the course of the school year; however, when we are in the middle of hectic schedule, it can be difficult to try new things.  I believe that summer break is a wonderful time to reflect on your practices and plan how you might incorporate new strategies into your routine next year.

If you are a teacher currently on break, take a minute to think about a training, conference, or meeting that you attended this previous year that was meaningful to you.

• Who was the presenter? Check out their website to see what materials you can find.
• What information did you gather from the session? Maybe review the notes you jotted down on a handout.
• What classroom supplies might you need to implement these ideas?  Conduct a quick Internet search for materials.
• How can you utilize this information to meet your needs? Maybe meet with several colleagues to see if they might be interested in brainstorming and planning together.

Most importantly write down these ideas so you remember them as you start the new year!
